After our quick trip to London for my birthday, we headed off to Edinburgh to produce our show for the Fringe Festival. Recently, I was asked for not-to-miss things to do in Edinburgh. Since we were only there for the Fringe Festival, we didn’t have much time to explore… except for restaurants. So if we can give anyone travel tips, it’s on the best restaurants in Edinburgh! Here were our favorite places to eat…
The best restaurants in Ouarzazate (that are hopefully still in business!)
When Mike was producing Prison Break Season 5, we had a two and half week stint for filming in Ouarzazate, Morocco. We of course ended up eating at a few restaurants several times, and some places only once for reasons. And thus have narrowed down the restaurants that are hopefully still in business (some of the “best of” lists are out-dated), and worth your time, and your per diem…
The awesome hotels and best restaurants in Cartagena (that we discovered by accident)
We took a last-minute trip to Cartagena when we found out we couldn’t fly from Bogota to Costa Rica without a yellow fever vaccine. No worries, we re-routed ourselves to the gorgeous town of Cartagena, Colombia and found some amazing places to stay, and sampled from some of the best restaurants in Cartagena! Keep reading if you want to know more about where to stay and where to eat…
#Morocstars: Our quick and mind-blowing Marrakech food tour
After our seven hour flight from New York to Casablanca, Megan slept on a couch in the lounge with her head in my lap, as I balanced my laptop on one leg and looked up the pronunciation of “Djemaa el-Fna.” Then we took a quick flight to Marrakech. For those curious, neither of us slept much on our flights, but now we can relax a bit in our hotel, before Megan gets dental work at Djemaa el-Fna square!! Time to look up how to pronounce “can that monkey drill a cavity out?”
#EatDrinkDesire: My birthday trip to London
This is our oral history of my 35th birthday trip to London! Megan: Somewhere between LA and London, hovering between 34 and 35-years-old, as most of the plane slept, a flight attendant noticed that I was awake and excited told me to run up past first class (“tell ’em Selina sent you”) and look out the window to see the Northern Lights. With my heart pounding, I raced past the un-aware passengers, blew through curtains, avoided the feet of the lay-flat first class, and pressed my face up against the tiny window in an emergency exit door. Sure enough, there they were: Pale and bright green lights, shimmering in the…
5 things I learned from my first Fall on the East Coast
We just got back from a trip to the East Coast during a time that is called “Fall.” I’ve always heard good things about Fall — it’s beautiful, the leaves of trees change colors, the air is crisp, it’s cold-but-not-too-cold — and it sounded lovely. I enjoy a typical Fall color palate of burnt oranges, mahogany reds, and mustard yellows. I have partaken of an apple cider or two during the Fall months. And I even knew that acorns were somehow associated with it. But OMG I was not prepared for how fucking Fall Fall can be. Here are the five things that New York, Boston, and Maine taught me…
What to pack for Bogota with tips from someone who lives there
We were heading for Colombia in December, and my huge question was: what to pack for Bogota? Fortunately, we have friends who’ve been living and working in Colombia for a couple years (shout out to Narcos!). So we reached out to them to get some tips on what to pack for Bogota in December. Although most of these tips will work for any time of year! Here are the super-helpful tips from our friend and fabulous Colombian chica Shelly…
The “bacano” bites and best restaurants of Bogota
Bogota is an amazing foodie destination — one could even say it’s “bacano” — but it’s really underrated. It’s feels like New York with a South American flair. We were visiting friends who live in Colombia, and they took us to some of the best restaurants in Bogota. Where to stay if you want to walk to restaurants… We stayed at the Embassy Suites in Bogota. It’s a fairly nondescript business hotel, unremarkable, except for its fantastic location — Zona G. The G in “Zona G” is for “gastronomy,” and with good reason — it’s basically three square blocks of great restaurants! Here are the best restaurants in Bogota…
My answer to the question: “What should I do in Maui?”
I’ve been spending long periods of time in Maui steadily, since 2005. So it’s not surprising that every time a friend of mine books a trip to Maui, I get asked: “What should I do in Maui?” “What are the things I have to see while I’m in Maui?” “Where should I eat in Maui?” I’ve answered this so many times, that I have a auto-response email. But then I thought… why hide all that Maui goodness under wraps. Most of these suggestions are based on my side of the island (South Maui), but I’ve tried to spread the love all over. So, here are my must do’s, must see’s…
10 tips for getting the most out of your The Taste LA Times weekend pass
For the past three years, Mike and I have attended The Taste LA Times Event — a weekend long food festival. This year we attended all four of the weekend events to collect the best bites of The Taste LA 2017. But patterns started to really emerge this year (that we suspected of being true last year) and we realized, we’ve got a bit of insight into how to get the most out of your weekend pass to The Taste LA…
